One of our Customer Experience at Hotel
"Comfortable peace & quiet with awesome breakfasts!”
My wife and I have been coming regularly to Elizabethtown (from the UK) for 9 years to visit my Mother, who lives in the Masonic Village there.
Up until now, we have always stayed at the Holiday Inn Express because it's nearby. But we've never much liked it - it's close to the freeway, slightly shabby, the breakfast room is small & nasty and the rooms are a little odd, with the bathroom partly in the bedroom. So, this time we decided to try something else; West Ridge Guest House. What a revelation! OK, it too is slightly dated, but that is easily overlooked due to the bucolic location and the hospitality of Bob & Alison, the innkeepers since January 2015. We had the "Country" room, which is very comfortable (and very large!), two king size beds and a small deck with open views. The bathroom has a tub and an over-tub shower and there’s plenty of hot water. The building has open fields behind it, and a quiet residential district in front, and we didn't hear any noise at all, other than the very occasional airplane going into Harrisburg International Airport - but there are only 1 or 2 of those a day.
But the highlight has been Bob's breakfasts. You choose each evening what you want the following morning (there is a choice of two different cooked breakfasts or continental) and it's prepared fresh for you when you appear at your chosen time. We stayed for a week, and Bob produced something delicious and different every day. Plus, if you have the main breakfast choice (as opposed to continental), you don't need any lunch!
Bob & Alison were very welcoming and hospitable and I don’t see how they could have done better. Altogether an excellent experience, and we will definitely be staying at West Ridge on future visits.

Some of our Customers Experience
"As a most frequent business traveler who stays at B&Bs 98% of my travel time, I feel well qualified to rate B&Bs and country inns. The West Ridge Guest House is superb! Beautiful, well appointed rooms, a gorgeous, quiet setting and the best innkeepers. There's actually an exercise room ~~ never before found in any other inn! Lancaster county has numerous B&Bs, but I only stay at the West Ridge as none better can be found."
"My Husband and I have been their twice and we will be going again. It is an excellent B&B. It has many nice rooms, the owners are wonderful people, and the Breakfasts are excellent. Check out "The Loft"! The owners are "salt of the earth" type of people whose entire family helps-out with the ongoing chores around the place with great professionalism. The food was superb and we will definitely return there again!"

The bed and breakfast has a long and full history that dates back to Roman times. Travelers in this time span would find people in the town square who were offering a room as Guest House Room in their home for the night. Private homes were more comfortable than cozy inn with breakfast, as well as less costly. The amenities were usually much cleaner and more welcoming, so it became a practice to stay in private homes as they travelled.
In the 1700s and 1800s the bed and breakfasts became very common. These were private residences which would cater to a specific type of person. The country was in a state of war to some extent. Traveling statesmen and army officers would often need a place to stay. Men and women who knew of their arrival in their town would open their homes to them, offering them what comfort they could during their stay.
The practice expanded so that other people also began to open their homes, but in many cases they would specialize in the people who stayed with them. For example, a physician would open his or her home to a doctor who was traveling through, while an attorney who got wind of someone who was visiting the area would open up his home to that attorney. They would speak far into the night and in the morning, before leaving the professional would offer them a meal to tide them over before they went on their way.
